Travel & Tourism—Oregon Scenic Byways GuideShowcasing road trips for visitors to spur tourism in rural communities![]() ![]() While tourism is an important element of Oregon’s economy, some of the more far-flung regions of the state tend to receive short shrift thanks to their isolation. The Scenic Byways program attempts to attract visitors and locals alike to off-the-beaten-path locations, providing federal funds to promote these regions as destinations for driving tours. Oregon has more designated scenic byways and tour routes than any other state. They are highlighted in the 64-page Oregon Scenic Byways Guide (commissioned by the Federal Highway Administration, Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Oregon Tourism Commission), written by Steelhead Communications and designed by In House Graphics. This four-color booklet captures memorable driving vacations across the state, from the Wallowas in the northeast, to the “Oregon Outback” in the southeast, to communities along the state’s extensive coastline.
